Lesbian Years

Image Description : A collage containing three photographs and a poem. The top image shows a cloudy sky with the sun partially visible, framed by decorative leaves. Below it is a photo of a U-Haul truck parked in front of a building with purple heart graphics around it. The bottom image shows a small brick structure with a sign reading “Phone.” Text on the right side features a poem about moving, love, and transformation.

“We have to move in now” my past partner said after seven days of being together. And though I know she was joking then, it didn’t sit right with me that there is an expectation for lesbian couples to move in together quickly. Scrolling through TikTok, I noticed a trend going on comparing lesbian dating years to dog years—that perhaps if one doesn’t move quickly, years are lost. But, being too eager can sometimes negatively charge the safe atmosphere and cause dependency rather than love.

Lesbian relationships are seen to be highly reactive like Bromine ion, ready to bond whenever, unstable. However, humans aren’t boxes on tables and will never fir the mold—the halogen will always seek the octet formation but will always fall short. Instead of looking at their incredible chemistry, they depend on gaining and end up falling.
